Intour Maldives recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating 30 years of partnership, success and commitment to promoting the Maldives to the world. The special anniversary gathering brought together leading luxury resort partners, international travel professionals, and long standing industry friends who have been part of the company’s remarkable journey over the past three decades.

Hosted by Managing Director Ali Firaq alongside the leadership and core teams of Intour Maldives and sister brand Roam Maldives, the event served as both a celebration of achievement and a tribute to the relationships that have helped shape the Maldives into one of the world’s most sought after luxury destinations.
Among the distinguished guests were representatives from many of the Maldives’ most renowned hospitality brands, including Four Seasons Resorts Maldives, One&Only Reethi Rah, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Soneva Resorts Maldives, Avani Maldives, Anantara Resorts Maldives, Niyama Private Islands, Patina Maldives, Jumeirah Maldives, JOALI Maldives, JOALI BEING, Conrad Maldives, The Nautilus Maldives, Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau, W Maldives, Madifushi Private Island, JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort, Niva and Versa Resorts, together with numerous other valued partners from across the tourism industry.
The evening also welcomed long standing travel partners from key international markets, many of whom have worked alongside Intour Maldives for years in promoting the destination and creating memorable experiences for travellers from around the world.
While the occasion celebrated the company’s official founding in 1996, Mr. Firaq reflected on a journey that began even earlier.
Addressing guests, he shared that his own efforts to promote the Maldives internationally started in 1987 when he first travelled overseas to introduce the destination to international markets.
“When I first travelled abroad in 1987 to promote the Maldives, we were introducing a destination that was still unfamiliar to many travellers around the world. Looking back today, it is remarkable to see how far the Maldives has come. This success belongs not to one company, but to an entire industry built on vision, commitment and strong partnerships.”
His remarks resonated with many in attendance who have witnessed first hand the transformation of the Maldives from a relatively unknown island destination into one of the world’s leading luxury tourism success stories.
A particularly memorable element of the evening was a specially curated anniversary presentation that played throughout the event, showcasing photographs and milestones from Intour Maldives’ three-decade journey.
Displayed across screens around the venue, the presentation featured rare images from the company’s early years, including international roadshows, trade exhibitions, sales missions and destination promotion activities undertaken by Intour teams across various markets during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Many of the photographs highlighted pioneering efforts to introduce the Maldives to travellers and industry partners throughout CIS markets and other emerging regions at a time when the destination was still in the early stages of its international development.
The presentation was complemented by a collection of heartfelt congratulatory messages and tributes from long-standing partners, friends and industry colleagues whose relationships with Intour Maldives span many years. Their words reflected not only professional achievements, but also the trust, friendship and mutual respect that have been built through decades of collaboration.
Together, the images and messages offered guests an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of both Intour Maldives and the destination itself, while celebrating the partnerships that continue to drive the success of Maldivian tourism today.
Throughout the evening, conversations centred around shared memories, industry milestones and the many partnerships that have contributed to the growth of the Maldives tourism sector. What emerged was a powerful reminder that the destination’s success has always been the result of collective effort, built upon the commitment of resorts, tour operators, travel advisors, airlines, tourism professionals and industry leaders working towards a common goal.
Speaking about the significance of the milestone, Mr. Firaq expressed his gratitude to the many individuals and organisations who have contributed to the company’s journey.
“While we are proud to celebrate thirty years as a company, this milestone belongs equally to the partners who have been part of our story. Many of these relationships span decades and have been built on trust, loyalty and a shared passion for the Maldives. We are grateful for every partner who has contributed to our success and to the success of our destination.”
As Intour Maldives enters its fourth decade, the company remains committed to strengthening its partnerships, supporting its resort and travel trade partners, and continuing to showcase the very best of the Maldives to travellers around the world.
The anniversary celebration concluded with a shared sense of appreciation for the past and optimism for the future. More than a celebration of thirty years, it was a recognition of the people, partnerships and shared vision that have helped define the journey so far and will continue to shape the future of Maldives tourism for generations to come.
