Carbon Offsetting
Launching an opt-in carbon offsetting program for Guests tailored to their stay.
1. Carbon offsetting is a way to balance out the carbon emissions created by human activities.
2. We partner with a local company to calculate how much carbon was emitted by the specific booking in order to accurately offset emissions
3. This is done using a carbon calculator, which considers factors like flight distance and, type of transportation used for their holiday in the Maldives
4. Carbon credits are certificates that represent a reduction or removal of greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere.
5. These credits will be purchased through UNFCCC-certified bodies, and also support local conservation.
6. The idea behind carbon offsetting is to help achieve a net-zero carbon footprint, with the guest receiving a certificate to show their personalised
carbon offset for their travel.
While carbon offsetting is not a perfect solution to the problem of climate change, it is one way that individuals and organizations can take action to reduce their carbon footprint and support the transition to a more sustainable future.
Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action
Being a signatory of the Glasgow declaration on climate action in tourism.
1. As signatories we commit to deliver climate action plans within 12 months of signing and implementing them accordingly.
2. If we already have plans, we commit to updating or implementing them in the same period to align with this declaration.
3. Intour Maldives commits to report publicly both progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as the actions being taken, at least annually.
The Glasgow declaration: a commitment to a decade of climate action in tourism.
